Suspect in Queens Jewelry Store Robbery Arrested
The man is charged in connection with a total of six armed robberies and two gunpoint carjackings.
According to a New York Daily News report, Franco Alexander Peraza Navas, 30, was arrested in Yonkers, New York, on Sunday.
Authorities allege he’s the man behind at least two gunpoint carjackings and six armed robberies and attempted robberies.
Navas’ alleged robberies include a jewelry store in Queens in October, where he was said to have shot out a glass partition then kicked it in, as per court documents.
He’s accused of stealing three trays of diamond and gold rings with an approximate value of $375,000 before fleeing on a black moped.
All six robberies took place between August and December, with Navas allegedly firing his gun during three of the crimes.
“The defendant’s actions were indisputably dangerous,” said court documents. “The defendant committed multiple armed robberies and carjackings, and in several instances discharged firearms.
Police attempted to arrest Navas on Nov. 3, but he got away.
He was eventually tracked down using witness testimony and cell tower data. Police also learned he entered a residence using a key card following a September robbery in the Sheepshead Bay neighborhood in Brooklyn.
Navas was ordered to be held without bail at an arraignment in Brooklyn Federal Court on Monday, according to the New York Daily News report.
