New York—Hindman has announced the results of its first New York auction, held Oct 18.

“Time & Space: Watches from the Collection of Glen de Vries” earned just over $3 million, or 106 percent of the lots’ low estimates, with 95 percent of lots sold.

Combined with an additional multi-owner watch sale held in the afternoon, the two auctions realized a total of $3.3 million.

“It was an honor to launch our inaugural New York sale season with this collection,” said Hindman Managing Director, New York region, Gemma Sudlow.

“Glen de Vries’ passion for horology and innovation come together in this compelling group of timepieces and our clients responded with enthusiasm. We were thrilled with the excitement in the room for our very first New York auction.”

The model was produced between 2006 and 2015 and features gold dials and a mechanism unique to the watchmaker that is visible through the crystal caseback.

It fell within its $250,000-$450,000 pre-sale estimate, selling for $415,800.

Other top lots were an F.P. Journe 18-karat rose gold “Octa Chronograph,” which sold for $176,400; a Richard Mille RM-6101 Yohan Blake, which sold for $163,800; and an A. Lange & Sohne Datograph Up/Down platinum “Lumen,” that garnered $163,800.

“The watches in the de Vries collection reflected the interests of the collector—innovative timepieces from many independent and forward-looking makers,” said Hindman Senior Vice President, Jewelry and Watches, Reginald Brack.

“It was truly one of the most remarkable collections I have ever had the pleasure of handling. Mr. de Vries had such a deep appreciation for the science of watchmaking, being drawn to some of the most sophisticated complications like tourbillons, perpetual calendars, flyback chronographs, and other groundbreaking mechanical achievements. He was ahead of his time in his collecting and curated a collection that our clients responded to with enthusiasm.”
